Have you ever found yourself stacking aluminum cans just for the fun of it? Or arranging them on the table to create a symbol or word? If the answer is yes, then this DoSomething.org contest is perfect for you! The 50 Cans Campaign is a unique contest to get teens recycling while encouraging their creativity.
According to Mother Nature Network, the campaign requires teens to collect at least 50 cans but encourages collecting more. Then participants photograph their creatively arranged collection, and finally, participants upload their photos to the photo sharing site Instagram with the hashtag #50cans.
The contest began on Sept. 24 but runs through Dec. 13. Every teen who participates is entered for a chance to win a $4,000 scholarship for every 50 cans they collect. So the more cans you collect, the more prize money you can receive if you are the winner!
However, according to DoSomething.org’s Instagram, every week the contest has different themes and smaller contests to keep it interesting.
DoSomething.org is a non-profit designed to encourage young people to participate in social change. The non-profit has worked on campaigns for bullying, animal cruelty, homelessness, cancer and recycling. On DoSomething.org’s about us page, they proudly state their mission is to “spearhead national campaigns so 13-to 25-year-olds can make an impact – without ever needing money, an adult or a car.”
So why not have some fun with your recyclables and join in on The 50 Cans contest! You get to be creative, have the chance to win some big money or prizes, and you are helping out the earth!
