The beauty product business is booming.  There are millions of products available and all of them claim to make you look and feel better.  And their marketing tactics are good.  Who doesn’t want to look like the models in the magazines and commercials?  While the people selling the beauty products are making big money, us consumers end up shelling out a lot of money for those beauty products.

Plus, your bathroom counter is starting to get a bit crowded from all of the products that you HAD to have but didn’t deliver on their promises.  So what are you suppose to do?  You want to take care of yourself and make yourself look as good as possible but you don’t want to be shelling out hundreds of dollars on all the products available while only using half of them regularly.

Luckily there are some simple ways that you can cut your beauty budget in half but still get quality products that let you look and feel like a million bucks!

1. Choose Wisely

This might sound like common sense but sometimes we don’t use common sense when it comes to beauty products.  We get sucked into all the claims and promises and then as if we’re controlled by the beauty product wizard we hand over our money for another facelift cream, even though we already have five half used bottles.

Take a look at all of the products you have in your cabinet on your bathroom counter.  If you have six anti-aging creams and none of them are finished, maybe you don’t need to use it.  Hone in on the products that you use over and over.  Those are the ones that you need to spend your money on.  Fight the urge to jump at every single new product that hits the market.  Chances are it won’t work and you don’t need it.

2. Make Your Own

This is going to be one of the biggest ways that you can save money on beauty products.  It isn’t as hard or complicated as you might think.  There are plenty of easy tutorials out there for any kind of product you might need.  Making your beauty products is also a great way to make sure that you know all the exact ingredients that go into the products.  So many times when we buy from the store, there are harmful or dangerous ingredients.

A few of the easiest things to make on your own are facial cleansers, makeup removers, face masks, and moisturizers.  You can even make things like blush, eyeshadow, lip balms and stains all for a fraction of the cost.

3. Do It Yourself

Making your own products is a good way to save money but so is doing things yourself.  If you get a weekly manicure or facial or are a frequent visitor to the hair salon, these services can quickly add up.  You can do a lot of these things yourself and save a lot of money.

I’m not saying that you have to totally give up your trips to the hair salon or spa, but you can cut down on the number of visits by doing it yourself in between.  Home manicures are simple and you can find a lot of the same products from your favorite nail salon at the store.  There are a ton of different facials that you can do at home that use all natural products and will leave your skin feeling refreshed and glowing.

While you might be hesitant to dye your own hair at home, it is pretty easy and even if you just touch up the roots, this can save you money by cutting down on the number of times you have to go to the salon.  Henna is a great way to dye your hair without all of the harsh chemicals.

4. Use Samples or Subscription Boxes

Getting samples of products that you might like to try is a great way to save money and see if the product will actually work before you buy it. Many stores do offer samples of most of their products, so just ask before you buy.

Another route you can try is a subscription box.  A subscription box that is entirely dedicated to beauty products will send you a monthly box filled with samples of different products like makeup, creams, and perfume.  This way you can try new things but at a discounted price.  That way you can know if you actually like something and not waste your money on a full-size product.

5. Buy in Bulk and Shop Sales

There are certain beauty products that you can buy in bulk and save money on.  Things like shampoo and face wash will last a long time and you can stock up when those things go on sale.  Which leads me to the next tip…

Shop the sales.  Beauty stores will have sales throughout the year and when those sales pop up, that’s the time to stock up on your favorites.

6. Buy Quality

Choose the best products that you can afford.  This way you are spending your money on things that will work, won’t harm or irritate you, and last a long time.  Plus, if you’re cutting down on the amount of products you purchase you can put that money to good products.  Your wallet and your skin will thank you!
