3 Ways Smoothies and Shakes Will Enhance Your Life

Raw plant-based smoothies (a.k.a. shakes) are a great solution for people trying to eat healthier, increase their energy, and save time, while still being exciting on a daily basis. For starters, they’re fast to whip up and require little effort to make. They’re super charged with easy-to-assimilate nutrition, and they’re gentle on the planet by the nature of their ingredients. Smoothies are a no-brainer and the following information will get you excited to get your smoothie-groove on today!

Smoothies Offer Super Nutrition!

A mega delicious smoothie can be whipped up in less than 5 minutes. Just toss the ingredients in a blender, push a button, and pour into a glass. Voila! (Oh yeah, rinse out the blender – still, even with clean up, you’re looking at less than 5 minutes. Gotta love that!) Even better, you can save more time by making enough in one batch to enjoy for two days in a row. Just store the next day’s batch in a glass mason jar with an airtight lid securely on top.

Smoothies are to be enjoyed any time of day (heck, I have it for dessert sometimes!), but breakfast is a common smoothie-lovin’ time. It’s a great way to start the day after all. Smoothies and shakes offer you a high-energy breakfast packed with nutrients that will keep you buzzing all day long.

Smoothies for All-Day Energy!

Digestion is a big energy drainer. It’s no wonder people often want to take a nap after eating. Well, ‘tis not the case when you drink a smoothie for your meal, because the blended mixture is nice and easy on your digestion. Think of it this way: your blender chews it for you. I don’t know about you, but in my hectic life, I find that I don’t chew enough when eating solid food and that just wreaks more havoc on digestion. But! Drinking a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner!) as a smoothie gives me sky-rocketing energy to keep me poppin’ through my day, and my digestive system thanks me.

Smoothies’ Diversity Keep You Comin’ Back For More!

The variations you can make with smoothies are literally endless. The flavor combos based on your cravings while you’re shopping, or simply what you have on hand in your kitchen, can vary with every single smoothie – making it an entirely different flavor explosion in your mouth with each creation. That’s exciting! There’s a reason they say, “Variety is the spice of life.”

Here are some options to consider: Start with a liquid base that can be filtered water, young thai coconut water, or raw nut milk (almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, and brazil nut milk are all delicious). Then, if you want extra protein, there are many plant-strong options: hemp powder, vanilla or chocolate sprouted brown rice powder, or pea protein powder. Next, add some phyto-nutrient rich fruit! Bananas and mangos make smoothies creamy, smooth, and deliciously sweet (if you’re really hankering for a creamy texture, add ½ avocado, too). Berries add massive anti-aging powers and apples (or pears) add serious fiber. If you want a chilly smoothie, add ice or use frozen fruit. From there you can add all kinds of superfood wonders: fresh greens, green powder (blue green algae or spirulina are popular), flax or chia meal, cacao nibs for texture, cinnamon or vanilla bean for flair… See? The options are endless and I’ve only mentioned a handful of things to consider. Let your creative juices flow.

To get you started on your smoothie kick, I’m sharing a kick-ass recipe with you.

Chia seeds do fine in a vitamix blended with other items. Sometimes I presoak at room temp overnight (and add the whole mix to the vitamix). It is not necessary to get specially milled seeds.

My boyfriend and I enjoy smoothies every morning, usually with fruit, but your article and a few others that I've read recently have given me the desire to test out some veggie/fruit blends as well. I have one question about the recipe that you've listed though. Do you think that it would be good with chia seeds rather than flax meal? If so, then does the chia have to be milled to get any benefits from it and would you use the same amount of chia as flax? Thanks!
