I don’t know about you, but in my hectic life, I find that I don’t chew enough when eating solid food and that just wreaks more havoc on digestion. But! Drinking a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner!) as a smoothie gives me sky-rocketing energy to keep me poppin’ through my day, and my digestive system thanks me.

The variations you can make with smoothies are literally endless. The flavor combos based on your cravings while you’re shopping, or simply what you have on hand in your kitchen, can vary with every single smoothie – making it an entirely different flavor explosion in your mouth with each creation. That’s exciting! There’s a reason they say, “Variety is the spice of life.”
Here are some options to consider: Start with a liquid base that can be filtered water, young thai coconut water, or raw nut milk (almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, and brazil nut milk are all delicious). Then, if you want extra protein, there are many plant-strong options: hemp powder, vanilla or chocolate sprouted brown rice powder, or pea protein powder. Next, add some phyto-nutrient rich fruit! Bananas and mangos make smoothies creamy, smooth, and deliciously sweet (if you’re really hankering for a creamy texture, add ½ avocado, too). Berries add massive anti-aging powers and apples (or pears) add serious fiber. If you want a chilly smoothie, add ice or use frozen fruit. From there you can add all kinds of superfood wonders: fresh greens, green powder (blue green algae or spirulina are popular), flax or chia meal, cacao nibs for texture, cinnamon or vanilla bean for flair… See? The options are endless and I’ve only mentioned a handful of things to consider. Let your creative juices flow.
To get you started on your smoothie kick, I’m sharing a kick-ass recipe with you
Vanilla Chai Frozen Shake (Yield 3 cups)
- 1 3/4 cups raw nut milk
- 1 tablespoon flax meal
- 1 serving vanilla plant-based protein powder
- 3 frozen bananas, chopped*
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon raw vanilla powder
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
- dash ground black pepper
- pinch ground nutmeg
- Blend it all up in your blender and enjoy this frozen deliciousness!
*If you don’t have frozen bananas, use fresh bananas and a cup of ice.
