Being a Vegetarian myself, for 15 years now, my DH is a meat eater and my DS is too, altho he gets both diets, however he prefers the real meats. He's only 5 but understands why Mom doesn't eat animals...to a point. I would love for him, one day, to tell me he has chosen not to continue with a meat diet, but i'm leaving the choice to him, as his father and i have discussed this is great lengths. A Near meat alternative might be what gets us there sooner!

I’m thinking this is great! Personally, and with this knowledge, I prefer to wear natural fibres like wool - it's warm, it breathes and it lasts when looked after - rather than synthetics that make you sweat, feel awful to the touch and are made from a barrel of oil (and all the damage that drilling for oil does to the environment).

Farming sheep for wool is still done, by far, by small farms, at least it is in Australia (where I am) Yes, the sheep have been bred to produce more and finer wool but they are well cared for and humanely dealt with at all times (my husband’s family used to breed merinos for wool so I have first hand knowledge of this). Although the West coast always seems to have everything first, the East coast has caught up. We now have our garbage patch too: the Atlantic Garbage Patch : ) Less plastic water bottles. Less litter. Thanks again for your great article. I'll be sharing it on the Museum of Litter's FB page.

Thanks for a great and informative article. Just wanted to add one thing. But saving animals is a flawed one. The best way to ensure good lives for farmed animals is to buy products that are free range or similarly secure good animal welfare. Otherwise only the "bad" will sell and so be produced.
And to take this to the extreme, if everyone was vegetarian or vegan, the animals would never live at all. No sheep, cows, pigs or chickens anymore.

There are many reasons for being vegetarian or vegan.<br

Be careful not to be speciesist yourself, it's a long process but you'll notice more and more that you're subconsciously desentitised about other species in a lot of situations.
As for people who will stop reading because X or Y, I would refer you to this post http://supervegan.tumblr.com/post/13617338684/why-i-am-not-responsible-for-you-being-a-shitty-person and cite: "Do you know what would happen if you went to an anti-racist’s blog and told them that the way they told people to stop being oppressive f*cks made it less likely for you to stop being racist?"
Close-minded people will be close-minded people whether you're nice with them or not (and this article isn't even "not nice" so they're just being douchebags if they refuse to read). In my experience (and I know anocdectical evidence has no value), it has absolutely no effect on the result. Advocacy doesn't work if the person isn't responsive in the first place. In other words, don't waste your time on self-righteous people (who *are* a minority even though you run across lots of them). Do plant the seed whenever possible (even with major douchebags), but attempting to have a debate with someone who has no intention whatsoever of considering any of what you say is ludicrous (can we all agree on that?).
Either way, the only "other side" to this moral issue is "right and wrong don't exist" (which is selfish bs), because using animals is inherently wrong just like human slavery is inherently wrong. If you think some forms of animal use are acceptable (like most people do), you need to research "the humane myth" (peaceful prairie sanctuary has a page on this).

Can you have a “too one-sided” opinion about other moral issues, like racism, rape, human slavery and murder?
